Week 37 - The Book of Acts | Pastor Harley Doneburg | November 30th, 2025
In this message from Acts chapter 14, Pastor Harley Doneburg walks through the closing section of Paul and Barnabas’ first missionary journey, beginning in verse 19. After Paul is brutally stoned in Lystra and left for dead, we see the powerful reality of Christian perseverance, discipleship, and faithfulness in the midst of suffering. Rather than quitting, Paul rises, continues preaching the gospel, and strengthens the believers he helped establish.
This passage highlights an essential truth for every believer: following Christ does not exempt us from hardship. Paul exhorts the church to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must enter the kingdom of God through many tribulations. Pastor Harley emphasizes that trials, opposition, and suffering are not signs of failure, but often evidence that God is at work, shaping and maturing His people.
The message also focuses on the importance of discipleship and community. Paul and Barnabas return to the churches they planted to strengthen souls, appoint elders, pray with fasting, and commend the believers to the Lord. Through this, we are reminded that ministry is not only about preaching the gospel, but about walking with people, caring for them, and helping them grow in their faith through the Word of God.
